Ingredients

For the Bread

  • 2 slices Artisan Bread Hearty breads like sourdough or ciabatta can be substituted.

For the Filling

  • 4 ounces Mozzarella Cheese Provolone or feta can be used for a tangy twist.
  • 1 cup Fresh Basil Spinach or arugula are good alternatives.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Tapenade Pesto or sun-dried tomato spread can be substituted.

For Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons Garlic Butter Ensure it is softened for easy application.
  • 1 teaspoon Chili Flakes Optional for a little extra heat.

Directions

  • Slice the artisan bread into thick, even slices, about 1 inch thick.
  • Spread the olive tapenade over one slice of bread. Layer with mozzarella and fresh basil.
  • Sprinkle chili flakes on top of the mozzarella if desired.
  • Spread garlic butter or brush olive oil on the outer sides of the sandwich.
  • Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich in and press down with a spatula.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  • Let it rest for 1-2 minutes before slicing and serving.
