Ingredients

For the Beef Mixture

  • 1 lb Ground Beef 80/20 blend provides a savory base
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion Finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced
  • 1 medium Bell Peppers Optional, diced finely

For the Sauce

  • 15 oz Tomato Sauce No substitutions recommended
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup Essential for flavor
  • 1 tbsp Brown Sugar Can substitute with honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce No substitutions recommended
  • 1 tbsp Yellow Mustard Can replace with Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Chili Powder Using chipotle chili powder adds smokiness
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper

Optional Toppings

  • Hot Sauce Add according to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
  • Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet; cook for about 2–3 minutes until the onion is soft.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, chili powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • Transfer the beef mixture to the slow cooker, pour in the sauce, and stir. Add optional peppers and hot sauce if desired.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 4–6 hours or HIGH for 2–3 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve hot on toasted buns or enjoy over baked potatoes, in lettuce wraps, or as a topping for nachos.
