For the Decorations

  • 1 teaspoon Red Food Coloring gel preferred
  • 1/4 cup Red Decorating Sugar can use tinted granulated sugar

Instructions

Making the Cookies

  • Cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Incorporate the large egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.
  • Combine flour and salt in a separate bowl and whisk them together.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture to form the dough.
  • Divide the dough, leaving one portion plain and tinting the other with red food coloring.
  • Chill both portions in plastic wrap for 30 minutes.
  • Shape the cookies into candy cane forms using the dough portions.
  • Prepare for baking by placing them on a parchment-lined sheet and sprinkling with red decorating sugar.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes until golden.
  • Cool on a wire rack completely.
