  • 2 teaspoons Salt Essential ingredient for flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil Can be substituted with melted vegan butter or neutral oil.

For the Topping

  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter Vegan butter is a great dairy-free alternative.
  • 3 cloves Fresh Garlic Garlic powder works but offers a different taste.
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Parsley Basil or oregano can be used for a unique twist.
  • 0.5 cups Grated Parmesan Cheese (optional) Skip for a vegan option or substitute with nutritional yeast.

Instructions

Steps

  • In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  • Incorporate all-purpose flour, salt, and olive oil into the yeast mixture. Stir until a cohesive dough begins to form.
  • Transfer the dough to a clean surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl. Cover with a towel and allow it to rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  • Once risen, punch down the dough gently and roll it into a rectangle. Slice into strips about 1-inch wide.
  • Tie each strip into a knot and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Let rise for another 20-30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). A hot oven is crucial for baking.
  • Bake the knots for 12-15 minutes until golden brown on the outside.
  • While baking, melt unsalted butter in a pan, stir in minced garlic, and mix in chopped parsley and a pinch of salt.
  • Brush the warm garlic butter generously over the knots. Optionally sprinkle with grated Parmesan before serving.

Notes

Serve with marinara sauce for a delightful dipping experience. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
