Instructions

How to Make Decadent Skull Lava Cake

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Heat in 20-second bursts, stirring in between, until smooth and melted. Allow it to cool slightly before using.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, large eggs, and egg yolks until the mixture is light and frothy.
  • Gently combine the cooled chocolate mixture into the egg mixture. Add red food coloring and vanilla extract, stirring until everything is blended.
  • Sift in all-purpose flour and carefully fold the mixture until just combined.
  • Grease your skull silicone molds generously, then fill each mold to about 3/4 capacity with the batter.
  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake for 10–12 minutes, watching for set edges and a jiggly center.
  • Remove from the oven, let the cakes cool in the molds for 2–3 minutes, then carefully unmold them onto a cooling rack.
  • Dust the tops with powdered sugar and decorate with melted black chocolate or edible marker for fun designs.

Notes

Optional: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream for an extra indulgence. Quality chocolate matters for the best flavor.
