  • Large bowl
  • separate bowl for dry ingredients

Ingredients

For the Batter

  • 225 g Unsalted Butter Adds richness and moisture; using unsalted ensures control over salt levels.
  • 400 g Granulated Sugar Provides sweetness and helps create a light texture; no substitutions necessary.
  • 300 g All-Purpose Flour Forms the cake's structure; sift well for optimal texture.
  • 4 Large Eggs At room temperature for even mixing.
  • 120 ml Whole Milk Enhances moisture; can substitute with almond milk.
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract Infuses a rich, aromatic flavor; can swap for almond extract.
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder Provides leavening; ensure freshness for good rise.

For Dusting

  • 3 tablespoons Powdered Sugar Adds a sweet finishing touch; dust just before serving.

Instructions

Main Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch glass baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, beat the unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add the large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Don't forget to add the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking powder to evenly distribute the leavening agents.
  • Gradually add your flour mixture and whole milk to the buttery mixture, starting and ending with the flour. Mix until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 40-45 minutes. Check for doneness with a toothpick.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan, then dust with powdered sugar before slicing.
